Google Hash Code and the Entelect Hubs

For the past few years, Entelect has supported and participated in Hash Code, Google’s annual coding competition. We set up hubs in our Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town offices, and we have Entelectuals participating in the competition every year. Hash Code is a fun challenge aimed at everyone that is 16 years and older, and is open to engineers at any skill level.

What is Hash Code?
Hash Code is Google’s team-based programming competition that allows you to share your skills and connect with other coders as you work together to solve a problem modelled off a real Google engineering challenge! In small teams of two to four, coders all over the world tackle the first problem through an Online Qualification Round. Although this round is hosted online, teams can come together to compete side-by-side in locally coordinated Hash Code hubs. This is where Entelect plays a part – we create these hubs for teams to get together and collaborate. The top teams from this round are invited to join at an international Google office for the final round.

Join a hub
Entelect host hubs at all our South African offices for the online qualification round of Hash Code. Remember, this is a relaxed competition where you DON’T need to be a wizard of AI to participate! The prize money is also well worth it, so get your teams together and register at one of our hubs below.

The qualification round
The online qualification round takes place on 20 February 2020 at 19:30 SAST and registered teams are invited to participate from one of our hubs. The hubs are available to anyone over the age of 16 and you don’t have to be an Entelectual to join. Top scoring teams from the online qualification round will then be invited to Google’s office to compete in the final round of the competition on the 25 April 2020.

Interested?
If you’re interested in joining one of our hubs, put together a team of 2-4 people and be sure that you all register individually on the Hash Code website. You’ll then need to select your applicable hub from the list of hubs in the judge’s system:

•             Entelect JHB
•             Entelect PTA
•             Entelect CT

Registration closes on the 17th February, but space is limited so register soon. We hope to see as many of you at one of our hubs for some pizza and collaboration!
